I've made some modifications to the member rankings, which some of you probably have already noticed. The reason for this was that the rankings were, to put it bluntly, quite a mess. We had a moderator group, but no members assigned to it, as well as things like elite users and other specialist groups that didn't really do anything.
To get things started, I've given the moderator class a complete overhaul, and made drone the first member of that group, and will be adding more people to it in the future. In addition to this, I'm going to consider getting rid of the elite user group (As of right now, Will is the only one) and some of the special groups (e.g. Slow Zombot) and making those regular users instead.
Anyway, the aforementioned cleanup is partially tied to the question I wanted to ask, which to put it simply, is: "would more members for this forum be a good idea or not?" That is, should we attempt to advertise ourselves and attract new writers and/or regular posters in general? Now, whether the consensus ends up being yes or no, either way we're probably going to have to work on the forum a bit. Mainly this would mean rewriting the rules thread to accurately reflect the current situation, and editing or deleting obsolete things.
So, vote in the poll, and let me know what you think.

Eh, some new blood might be nice, but since all we really do is write and talk at the cbox, there might not be any real point. After all, we technically have only
Fro Drone (only involved in one rp due to work) Free Thunder Will (doesn't write now, just at cbox) Guppy Prae JS myself
as the members of the board. Sure, getting new blood might help (I have a friend that might be interested in Bellum) but really, unless we have more stuff to offer, as it is should be fine. Just clear out the people that aren't regulars and simplify the system.

I think new members would be a great thing, would everyone be as tight nit a group as we are now? Some might, some might not. The truth is that should this be attempted, some will stay with us while others might not stick around for long. Regardless of that though, I think that attracting new writers would be refreshing. We would see updates more often, and we might even get to try out some projects we all have in storage... That and we could even have friendly competitions like we used to...
I miss this forum being active like it was in the early days, I know things change and all, but I think it'd be nice to have something like that again. The reason being is that (yeah we all had more free time back then), but also that there were all sorts of things going on with enough people to support whatever projects anyone wanted to try out...
Dunno, I'd like to see it happen. I'm up for advertising, but the real question is where... Most of us (if not all) came from GameFAQs, so that's an option, but where are good places to find people who want to write?

I lean towards yes, new members would be nice. It would speed up posting and bring in some fresh ideas. The thing I would worry about though, is people willing to stick around for the long haul. Having someone quit mid-RP is never good and sometimes makes it tough to figure out what to do with the dropped character(s). But despite that, its probably worth the risk if we can actually find people.

First off, I'd like to express that I totally do not like some of the changes that proboards has enacted. We can't Exalt/Smite anymore!? Sure, it was an exercise in pointlessness, but those are the best kinds of exercises! What's with this "Follow" crap, or up-voting individual posts now? What is this, Facebook? Bleh. And now when you type out replies, you can't even see the character count for what's been written so far. How am I supposed to properly divide my behemoth posts now? What is the deal? *sigh* I guess I'll just have to adjust.
I also only hesitantly accept Moderator status. Authority and I have a less than stellar history. But I guess it'll be fine since I'm only a piece of a larger authority as opposed to the law of the land. So, whatever.
In any case, to answer your question, I am dubious about the prospects of bringing in new people. I think it would be great if it could be done, but it's not really about just bringing in new people, it's about bringing in the right people. We would not only need a place to advertise, but a proper screening process. Our style of RP is quite a bit different than most other RPs I've seen out there. A lot of other people are used to turn-by-turn posting, with much more focus on fighting each other in duels and stuff. We would need a way to attract people whose styles of writing lend themselves to this kind of RPing. And as Iam said, we need people who we feel would stick around for a decent chunk of time. So that's also a consideration. It's incredibly annoying when new people join an RP and then quit soon after (especially if they have multiple characters). You can only ignore, conveniently kill and/or write under a rug so many people before it becomes ridiculous.
On top of that, there is a valid concern as JS notes in the length of EotD and the deterrent it provides against new writers. Speaking as the undisputed largest contributor to the story, I want my work read. That's why I nag you all when I post as to whether or not you read and have comments for me. But at the same time, to have to read what probably amounts to several novels of writing just to be able to join does seem unreasonable. So perhaps a new topic could be made compiling concise summaries of events, arcs, characters, etc. Maybe a little like that one topic Will made for Bellum Schismaticum, the Factions List thing.
Anyway, that's about all I have to say. Peace out.

@fro
As of right now, there's two moderator classes I've created: moderator and global moderator. The main difference is that the former has mod powers on a certain board, while the latter has sitewide authority. So I guess that if we want to get technical, the moderator group is more of a "board caretaker" type of role. I'm still experimenting with things a bit here, so the names might change to reflect that.
In any case, the only places I figured would be in need of having specific people assigned to them are the RP boards, since things may need to be updated, moved and so on. So in the end it's really just to make it easier for you and Thunder to run EotD and Bellum.
This was brought up in the cbox last night, and I do agree with it. So yes, some kind of recap or story so far thread would be useful to help prospective new writers to get into the story without having to devout hours into reading the RP.
Anyway, we do have the Bellum RP, which recently got rebooted, so it's pretty newb friendly and when joining you don't run into the same wall you do with EotD. Also, considering that it uses a pre-existing universe, the threshold for joining is even lower, since a lot of people are going to be familiar with the base premise, and won't have to familiarize themselves with a world and magic system built from scratch. So if we're going to try to attract some new blood, I think that we should focus on Bellum, and offer EotD on the side in case there are people who seem committed.
In the end, people suddenly going awol is not something we can control, so we'll just have to try to work around it. For example, we could limit the number of characters you can have (We're already doing this in Bellum). One per RP to start with, and over time you can have more if you want to. And not just because you might disappear, since not everyone can handle more than one character at once. This also applies to people here.
@js
GF has the RP/FF board, but from what I've seen over the years, they haven't been very supportive of RPing on other sites. And nowadays that place is pretty dead, so I have my doubts. Other than that, I'm not aware of many places on GF with similar interests, except maybe the Creative Writing board.
Anyway, proboards also has a place specifically for advertising your forum, so I guess we could try it out and make a thread there.

Alright, guys, help me brainstorm here... I'm thinking of doing a new default skin for the new guys, something that's not too "Space Themed" like it is now, but something that will attract a more general audience (not just space fanatics).
Thoughts? Should it be like a writing desk? Should it be some digital thing? What do you guys would attract a general audience? (you can think of more than just what I said too).
*NOTE: I did recently add a new Skin to the site titled "Metallic Frost", the original goal was that it be a general thing, but I dunno... I'm thinking something else would work better.

I think it should be left as it is. The way I see things, the default skin should be something fairly neutral, and the dark colors with a star field background accomplishes that rather nicely.
